The 数学教育中心 was created in Fall 2004, and it is designed to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics for all children, 青年, 和成人.  To accomplish this purpose, 中心 has engaged in three simultaneous and interrelated activities.  第一个, 中心 directly impacts the teacher development continuum from pre-service preparation to beginning teacher induction and socialization into teaching and on through continued professional development.  第二个, 中心 promotes and sustains an agenda of research designed to enhance the knowledge base of teaching and learning in mathematics education and to address problems of practice in teaching mathematics.  第三, 中心, 通过其活动, promotes and enhances the learning of mathematics of all persons from preschool through graduate school by engaging in a coordinated outreach program touching students, 学校, 以及整个印第安纳州的学区.

	Dr. 伊丽莎白布朗 is a Professor in the 部门 of Mathematics and Computer Science and Associate Dean of the College of 艺术与科学.  她得了B.S.  in Applied Mathematics from San Diego State University, an M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Utah, and a Ph.D. in 教与学 with an emphasis in Mathematics Education from the University of Utah.  自2000年以来，她一直是ISU的教员.  She is interested in mathematics teacher preparation and professional development as well as mathematics curriculum development.  Dr. Brown is a 2011 recipient of the Caleb Mills Distinguished Teaching Award and serves on the Board of the Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

She taught mathematics to children in grades 5-8 for 28 years and currently prepares elementary pre-service teachers in mathematics methods. She has a bachelor of science in mathematics from Tunghai University in Taiwan, a master of science in mathematics from National Changhua University of Education in Taiwan, and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in mathematics education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her primary research interests concern the teaching and learning of fundamental mathematical practices in both school and university settings, particularly as they relate to mathematical reasoning, 表示, 泛化, 的理由, 和证明.
